The East Lansing community mourns the loss of Randy Riley, a respected librarian and advocate for public knowledge, who passed away recently. Randy was widely known for his dedication to libraries across Michigan and for his leadership as a Michigan State Librarian.
During his tenure, Riley championed initiatives to improve access to information, expand literacy programs, and modernize library services throughout the state. Colleagues remember him as a passionate and tireless supporter of learning, whose efforts positively impacted countless students, researchers, and residents.
“Randy’s vision and commitment transformed our library system,” said a fellow librarian. “He believed in the power of information to change lives, and he made that belief a reality every day.”
Randy Riley is survived by family, friends, and a community that deeply appreciated his work. Memorial services will be announced by the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to local literacy programs or the Michigan Library Association are encouraged.
Randy’s dedication to knowledge, learning, and community service leaves a lasting legacy in East Lansing and across Michigan.
